investigation and control of interface morphology at the nanoscale; dissolution kinetics of thin films of a few atomic layers; nanodiffusion; surface and grain-boundary segregation; structural and optical investigation of porous and nanocomposite nanostructures; vapor and gas permeation of thin films; stress effects; photocatalysis; high harmonic generation (HHG).<\/li>\n<li>Computer simulation and theory: kinetic mean field model; kinetic Monte Carlo simulations; continuum models; calculation of Auger spectra, x-ray and neutron diffraction and reflectometry patterns; calculation of x-ray standing wave fields in solids; etc.<\/li>\n<li>Experimental techniques: AES, XPS, XRD, synchrotron and neutron methods, including diffraction, reflectometry, absorption spectroscopy and standing wave techniques;
